DESIGNING FLOWERS
Advantages of Silk
- Designs can be made prior to or in
advance of the occasion eliminating
the rush associated with fresh flower
arrangements.
- Brides can see exactly what they are
getting in advance, which allows time
for change. (If desired the bridal
bouquet for the ceremony can be
made of fresh flowers).
- Brides can also use some of the
ceremony flowers for the reception,
such as the pew ends for the back of
the bride's chair, etc.
- The bride and groom may decide to
be married in a smaller and more
intimate setting. These flowers can
be stored and used again if they
decide to have a reception at a later
time in a different venue.
- The frustration of wilted flowers and
foliage is eliminated.
- Some pieces can be placed in a
chest for your remembrance. Also for
children and grandchildren to see
from years to come.
- The pieces from the bride's table can
be placed in the couple's bedroom.
- Exact and unusual colors may be
found to match theme or interior
colors.
- They do not irritate allergies. (there
are very few people w/o allergies
now)
- Many are exact replicas of their fresh
counterparts. They are called silk
botanical or hand made.
These can initially be expensive but
over time and considering the
benefits can prove to be extremely
cost effective. Also when compared
to amount of time silks are usable and
enjoyed, they are relatively
inexpensive.
- Seasonal, holiday, and special
occasion designs may be easily
designed in advance and stored.
- The use of water in designs is
eliminated. Water can present a
problem depending on where the
arrangement is placed. Churches
appreciate the non-use of water
because there is no threat of water
getting on the floor/carpet, which
could cause stains from fresh flowers
and water combination. Also
prevents anyone from slipping,
because it only takes a small drop to
cause a disaster.
- A wider assortment of containers
may be used. It can also be designed
without container.
- Great versatility exists because more
time can be taken in construction.
- Flower stems can be lengthened and
easier manipulated without damage
to the flower.
Now, there are some disadvantages to silks, but
comes with resolutions.
- Over time they collect dust and must
be cleaned, however if they are for a
future occasion, they can be stored
eliminating dust collection.
- They do not have a fragrance (again,
fragrance can be a great
disadvantage to many because so
many people are plagued with
allergies).
- They also need to be updated
occasionally.
- They can present a storage problem,
but they can be clipped, extended
and manipulated creating a brand
new look for new arrangements.
- They can also be disassembled
wrapped in newspaper, etc.
